Originally, I had this comic a little different. I had drawn and colored someone else in the last panel, but then I looked into whether that person had publicly said they were homosexual or not. The person I drew, had never come out publicly, and that made the comic quite questionable. Amazing how one detail, something I thought was totally fine, turned into a kind of… bigoted?.. comic. Not straight up bigoted or anything, but if you put an effeminate person in the last panel, who isn’t homosexual, then do you think that all effeminate men are homosexual? Are effeminate men the only kind of people who are homosexual? I don’t think these things, so I had to quickly alter the comic so that my message wouldn’t come across as questionable. I find it funny now that I threw Elton John in there, and… he still doesn’t really look like Elton John, in my opinion, but I was in a hurry and that’s how he looks in my comic! I threw on some glasses and he very much looks like Elton to me. I am avoiding telling you who I drew at first, because I want to see if anyone has any guesses on who I drew the first time. All I did was add glasses to make him Elton, that’s all I am going to say. (Natalie, stay out of this! – She knows who it was.)

Have a good weekend everyone, I know I will. I will be celebrating my 6th wedding anniversary and “babymoon” amongst the redwood forests. I made enough comics to get me through the weekend and all of next week so I can just enjoy nature. Hopefully the weather cooperates!

It sounds super hippy to say it (what I said in the comic), but I sometimes like to think of myself as a small creature on this planet of ours. When I was younger, I would drive up to a secluded area of town, where there were few lights, and just stare at the stars to myself. It was a part of town not many would think to go to see the stars so I was often all alone with the occasional passing car. It was nice and quiet, long before I moved to big city life that I have grown accustomed to. I was walking home at midnight this week, because work has me working the late shift, and I saw the stars and had this thought. I enjoyed walking for that brief minute, before a shouting teenager, out past curfew I’m sure, brought me back to earth.

The ability to print boarding passes is pretty much for those who freak out over every nuance of boarding a plane, since you can now print them fairly easily at the airport these days. I don’t know why, but I am one of those people, I need to have my pass on me on my way to the airport. I know full well that there will be an open kiosk and I won’t even have to talk to someone to get it. But I just need that piece of paper in my hand.

Speaking of traveling, the wife and I are celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary, so we are going out of town. So the next couple of issues, are going to be uncustomer related, but something for me to help me get caught up a bit before I go out of town for the weekend, which is when I usually do my work on the strip. So enjoy, and we’ll see you on Wednesday!

Signing a card right in front of me, doesn’t suddenly show me you are who you are. Walking away and signing it after I told you that you need ID, doesn’t suddenly show me you are who are. Most importantly, showing me your library card, doesn’t suddenly show me either. This is a pretty simple concept to understand, I need to see proof that you are who you say you are and that you are authorized to use said card. This would be like accepting a counterfeit $100 bill after I used the marker that is suppose to tell me it’s fake. I could easily just disregard any sign that this may not be your card, but that should make you worry that anyone can just use your card. And if it doesn’t… then just sign the damn thing and be done with it… just not in front of me… preferably before you even come to me!

It’s a simple rule, signing a card makes it valid and not signing it means you want your card to require a valid ID for use. Personally, I forget that I don’t sign my debit card because I use the pin number all the time and rarely need to be asked for ID because of that. But I don’t understand the need to be upset when you suddenly realize you didn’t bring your ID… which baffles me. My wife leaves her wallet at home or in the car at times, but I don’t get that either. I can’t walk around without some form of ID, what if something happens… how will they be able to tell the people I love if they don’t know who I am? I think of worst case scenarios like that all the time, I use it at work when they try to tell me I can’t have my cellphone on me while I work. “I am not leaving it in a locker, if there was a terrorist attack (or fire, or natural disaster) I am going to want my phone” so that’s the end of that conversation. Also, in a world where police officers use force all the time and would likely not take a “I left it in the car” as an answer for why I can’t ID myself, I don’t trust that situation either. If I were a minority, I’d be even more afraid of that situation, unfortunately. I tried to explain to a tourist that you should carry your ID with you at all times, and she balked at me like I was crazy. I have a hard time following all the laws we’ve created for ourselves, I can’t imagine what makes someone from out of the country think they would be ok without ID.

Everyone wants stuff for free, and everyone wants to get those things for free without earning it. A lot of places even offer these to reward loyal customers, or so they think. In actuality, they are offering these things just so you can exploit the system… that’s the way people treat it anyway. Today’s strip absolutely happens at the theater all the time, and I generally don’t care. If the customer is ok with eating popcorn from a bucket that was in the garbage, and the company offered the free popcorn with any purchase… who am I to care, just wash your hands afterwards if you do this for people. One could argue, they didn’t purchase the popcorn so they don’t deserve the free refill, but it doesn’t stipulate that the original purchaser has to be the person to redeem it. But I also wouldn’t get mad at the cashier if they decided I wasn’t allowed to get the refill, though I know many people would likely yell at the cashier and call him names… not that this has happened to me… it was a friend… of a friend.. who has a brother, who has a friend.. that it.. happened to.

There seems to be a disconnect at times between the upper class we serve and our mediocre class (mostly consisting of lower and middle class). These people forget that we don’t get to go exploring as often as they do. So when I get asked where is a good place to eat around my work, they ask because they want to go where the locals go, but they are likely getting recommendations on where other tourists like to go. Because if I send you to where I go, you’re likely to get a quick service (non-sitdown) cafe style place. Because I only get 30 minutes for lunch, and when I get off work, I am too excited to go home to go eat somewhere near work. So you may as well be using Yelp at this point, unless you ask a concierge, because they get to eat everywhere in town for free, so ask them.

But to recommend a place to me to go to, when you make about 2x-4x more than me, not likely to stick in my head. Recommending hotels for me to stay at while I am traveling Europe for a week, isn’t going to help me if you took a month to travel Europe. I’d probably end up staying in hostels and there is no way I can get a month off of work. But thanks for the advice that I can never use.

I don’t drink, I have never been drunk, so I don’t know how accurate this comic is. I can only imagine with all the posts of “Never again” on facebook (you know who you are), that one wakes up with regrets the next morning. I’ve also heard Darius Rucker sing about drinkin’ and dialin’, so that’s about my idea of what it’s like when people get drunk. Also all those parties back in high school of driving my friend home while he opens the door to puke, that was pleasant. I don’t see the appeal of drinking, but I am not going to preach to you about it as long as you do it responsibly. This includes drinking and driving, too many people think this is ok. “I’ve had 3 beers, I’m not drunk” isn’t a good excuse if something does go wrong, even if it’s not your fault. I don’t see why people don’t just plan on getting a cab… anyway, that’s all from me.

Don’t laugh at this, it’s not a joke. Seriously, someone did this to me once at… an Office store… Max might have been in the name too. I offered to look up his previous transaction and find out which printer he had, went on the floor to find the ink he needed was out of stock, and grabbed some that had literally just come in to the store and rang him up. He thanked me very much, and I said it was no problem, just me doing my job. And then I said have a good night, and he just stood there. I didn’t have anyone else behind him so, instead of being all awkward about it, I did busy work until he walked away. He threw a puff of his breath in disgust and said “I was going to tip you, but you didn’t thank me for my service!” and before I could say anything, he was gone. I still have no idea what his idea of tipping someone means, but it would appear that you are suppose to be appreciative more than actually being nice to deserve a tip.

Don’t you talk back to me! You show me some respect! Without people like me, you’re nothing!

Children cry, it happens, I’m not a father yet and I understand this concept. But when they do, you should see if your surroundings are suppose to be quiet. Places where you should just accept that if you have a child in tow you just can’t go to anymore. This includes but it not limited to: Library, Massage parlor, Movies, Concerts, and places people go to sleep. It’s ok, you can go to these things when you don’t have a crying child with you. If the child is quiet, then by all means go to these places, but accept that you will not be there long before the child cries and just be ready to leave. Mostly, if a worker comes up to you and says “Please take your child outside” don’t be upset at them, it’s just their job. As a soon to be father, I have accepted that I will likely never see a movie in the theater for about 3-5 years. Not that I have been to one recently anyway, thank you Netflix!

All we have to do is feed it, it’ll shut up.
